iOS 26 will face one of the most invasive web tracking methods – 9to5mac

Advanced fingerprint protection was introduced for private browsing in Safari 17.0, it was also optionally available for non-enormous sessions. With iOS 26 will be enabled by default. Here’s what it means.

In order to reduce the total entropy exposed to other APIs, Safari will also rewrite the results of certain web APIs related to the metrics of windows or fingerprints, so the fingerprint scripts that call these APIs for users with different screen or window configurations.

In other words, Safari reports confusing and random information that is imperceptible to user experience, but makes the user’s fingerprints difficult for the data broker.

Safari even applied to the place and fingerprints for sale. So even if the web tries to fingerprints, the browser gives him a unique ID that changes across cards and relations, which means he can’t watch you on the web or remember you after erase.

With iOS 26 will be advanced fingerprint protection by default

Until now, we have reduced these protection to private browsing, or you who could manually turn them on in the settings for non-enormous sessions.

With iOS 26, Safari will apply advanced fingerprint protection in all browsing by default, but users will only be able to return it or turn it off.

Importantly, during the beta season, the old default settings are still APPRY: Advanced fingerprint protection is turned on only for private browsing. But if you would like to get before the official default introduction, here’s what you do:

To MacOS, go to Safari> Advanced settings and set “Use advanced fingerprint monitoring and protection” to “throughout viewing”.

On the iPhone and iPad, go to Settings> Applications (if you run iOS and iPados 18 and up)> Safari> Advanced> Advanced tracking and protection of fingerprints and set them for all browsing.
