Apple Arcade is trying to get permanent traction
Apple made it clear that he was not yet ready to throw a towel on Apple Arcade, but the service still faces a battle uphill to show its value.
When Apple Arcade originally launched in 2019, the company decided that its primary draw would be exclusive content. You couldn’t get Apple Arcade titles anywhere other than Apple Arcade.
That was the whole thing.
He praised as an incubator for innovative games and an unrivaled game experience. And all content would be unlocked and without IAP and advertising.
This strategy seemed to have no monstering power in which it hoped. In 2021, Apple expanded its arcade offers to include some big IP name.
Apple Arcade Senior Director Alex Rothman said Verge The fact that the service had to adapt best to serve its audience – a task that is not particularly easy to fulfill.
“Apple was a very wide customer base,” Rothman said. “There is no narrow stripe in which we can operate and satisfy the wide base of Apple users.”
Today, Apple offers 250 family games. The service also adds between three and ten new games a month.
While some of these games are still exclusive Apple Arcade, many of which are simply “unlocked” versions of the existing IP.
This included many game games as Fruit ninja+ and Stardew Valley+. Fully unlocked and includes a price of $ 6.99 per month, making a solid argument for the service.
It also evolves out of the way to develop new games. Apple has a much greater effect than a small studio.
India developer Sunblink that previously won the title Castle Defense HerishApple was tapped and created another game for Apple Arcade. It was Apple who managed to put together with Sanrio, and so Hello Kitty Island Adventure Was born.
‘Hello Kitty Island Adventure’
And the game actually gained who a little traction. Not only did the best game of the year at 2023 App Store Awards, were also nominated for the best mobile game for The Game Awards 2023.
Rothman says Apple Arcade intends to maintain this strategy of exclusive, unlocked Apple Arcade games and new IP editions.
“We don’t just go IP intole. It’s a wide mix because we have a wide gaming base.”
And Apple doesn’t seem to leave Apple Arcade soon.
“We’ll take care of the games very deeply,” Rothman said Verge. “Not just an arcade team, it’s across society.”
Apple Arcade’s longevity
To date, this shift in the strategy has not been enough to “save” Apple Arcade? When Apple Arcade started, I was very excited to try it. And I use it – for a while.
I liked many early titles. I played that you are Pinball WizardA beautiful game that combines Pinball reflexes with “No, wait, I can do better!” Roguelikes. This one is gone now.
Rest in Peace, Pinball Wizard – was removed from Apple Arcade in 2024
I am a big fan What …? series. I played much more What about golf? Before I should probably be ready to admit.
I loved Reign+. Apple Arcade left me addicted for some time.
In the end, however, I stopped playing enough games to justify the subscription. I did what Apple was hoping to avoid – I was out in the end.
And this seems to be the rule, not an exception.
The internal source reportedly said Information That Apple had about two million users in the first year. This modest success was even further dampened, because a quarter of these players were on free attempts.
In 2025 it was suspected that Apple Arcade had seen between three and five million users a month. These numbers are again a little juiced – it is likely that the great love of these users comes from the Apple One subscription.
And that is after Opened the existing “unlocked” IP service.
I will be here transparent: I’m probably not an Apple target audience. I barely be a player except ten hours a week I sign in Hearthstone.
Hearthstone on the iPhone
Playing is often enthusiastic. I don’t have a gaming computer and my steam package sat on my draw so long that it now has a fine layer of dust.
And a day has never been one to play a lot of games on your mobile. I am fast approaching 40, so games that require flash-fast reflexes on small screens do not attract me particularly.
It also takes a lot of time. I don’t have the time I am used to when I was younger.
But then again, maybe I MORNING Target audience Apple.
Apple Arcade, at least at the start, offered games with a decent fabric. There were visible titles and puzzles there, and many did not expect to sink for hundreds of hours.
And when starting it was $ 4.99 – hardly expensive. Even now it seems that $ 6.99 for the library of more than 250 games seems quite reasonable.
But I still came back.
For me it is personally, it is a combination of reasons. Yes, I don’t play games as much as I used to be – but even if I do it, Apple Arcade wouldn’t be so attractive.
The service mainly provides children. While Apple calls all its “friendly family” titles, many titles are focused on the basic-agd-or younger-kids.

Games like Crayola Scribble Scrubbie Pets+,, Play-Doh World, My speaking Tom+and the real smorgasbord Lego Apple Arcade titles. And alleviating that Apple includes titles for very young children – but there are only so many.
And even games that are not categories for children often look like they are. And I’m not saying I need violence, blood or gore to enjoy the game.
I say I really don’t want my games to look like they were designed by Fisher Price. And that comes from someone who probably enrolled at least a thousand hours Catamari series.
Honestly, many titles on Apple Arcade Just Look Cheap.
And I think it’s probably one of the bigger ones. Adults mostly make value on duty.
Baltro+
When Baltro+ It came out, I briefly discussed the Reactivation of Apple Arcade subscription. As I have shown before, Sucker for a card game. How many 300 hours in another Rogelike card game: Kill the tower
But then I remember that you could only buy Scales For steam. I did it instead.
I love the idea of a library of games without IAP and advertising that you pay for access with a low backlit fee. This thought is less attractive when the library is missing in games I want play.
Finally, I can return to Apple Arcade. Maybe it releases a game I can’t live without.
It’s possible. Maybe.
Apple Arcade has always been a hard sale. The service did not find its equivalent “severance pay” or “TED Lasso” as Apple TV+.
Until he does, I don’t expect Apple Arcade to become a household.
